An Interview with Dr. Ulrich Randoll
The Lebenshilfe magazine conducted an interview with Dr. Randoll on the occasion of a Matrix Rhythm Therapy seminar for staff at the Altenmarkt support center and residential home. The center is home to individuals with what is commonly referred to as severe multiple disabilities. Matrix Rhythm Therapy has been used at Lebenshilfe Traunstein for over 10 years. The initiative originated from the then chairman, Peter Bantlin. The devices were and still are funded through donations. Dr. Randoll personally trained the practitioners again this year and answered questions about Matrix Rhythm Therapy for the magazine.
How did you get into Matrix Rhythm Therapy?
When I started working as an assistant doctor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Erlangen in 1989, I was confronted very early on with non-healing wounds and pain patients, as well as oncology patients, i.e., tumor patients.
It became clear to me very early on that all healing mechanisms are related to microcirculation. Even back then, I said that if I mastered microcirculation, I would master chronic, degenerative diseases.
It became obvious to me that healing processes are a matter of cellular biological regulation, which is why I began to explore high-resolution video microscopy. I was able to see into the realms of electron microscopy, with the difference that everything was visible not as dead, but as alive and dynamic. It was a completely new quality of research for me.

As a result, I then went to see physiotherapists, as they are actually responsible for microcirculation. They work with a variety of frequency systems (electrical, mechanical, magnetic) within the framework of physical medicine. After seeing that all the devices were not based on physiological vibrations, but mostly on frequencies that had nothing to do with natural frequencies, I developed Matrix Rhythm Therapy, a resonance-based micro-extension technique that simulates muscle tremors.
This was in line with the trend of the times, as Albert Einstein gave me food for thought with his quote: „The medicine of the future will be a medicine of frequencies.“
Can you tell us something about the fundamental philosophy behind Matrix Rhythm Therapy?
Basically, one can say that life consists of processes, because without rhythms, we define death. This means that all diseases must be process disorders that can occur at various hierarchical interacting levels. Healing, therefore, means bringing this systemic mismanagement of pathophysiological processes into such a framework that all functions can function physiologically again. So, I needed a synchronizing timer, analogous to a conductor in an orchestra when the musicians are playing incorrectly or are just sitting around exhausted, which would initiate the regenerative healing processes through synchronizing time patterns.
Therefore, the enabled self-organization that takes care of the healing processes. „Tumblers“ that have gotten out of balance are relieved of pressure so that they can stand up again and vibrate elastically.
What scientific findings is Matrix Rhythm Therapy based on?
These findings are based on physiology, the science that explains the logic of life processes. From physiology, we develop working hypotheses that we then use as a basis for therapy. It is obvious to all of us that life processes express themselves rhythmically, for example, through heart, breathing, and brain rhythms, but also through muscle tremors and rhythmic muscle contractions. We define death as the stand-still of rhythms. Our body can be compared to an orchestra and when the musicians stop playing, we no longer hear anything and nothing moves. Life, death, health, and illness are therefore a question of individual cellular units whether and how they work together.
If the cellular rhythms are correct, then so are the associated fluid transport processes: from the macroscopically perceptible pulse waves of the heart muscle to the cellular microprocesses visible only under a microscope, where we see individual muscle cells moving around each other to ensure the supply and disposal of nutrients, analogous to fish in a lake.
If the „logistics“ aren’t right, the cells and fish adapt to a suboptimal environment, resulting in process derailments and symptoms which, after a while, can also be seen macroscopically, for example become visible in x-rays. Before that, you may only feel pain as a warning signal to change your lifestyle habits, or one might become increasingly restricted in mobility over the years, first in the joints and then suddenly in the entire body.
Life processes express themselves rhythmically.
The underlying conditions are therefore crucial to whether we stay healthy or become ill. Only in healthy, physiological conditions can we consistently play the symphony of health, remain productive, creative, and develop. Because we are products of the same evolution, there are rhythms that transcend all humans, such as the day/night rhythm, the lunar rhythm, and also the muscle tremor rhythm of resting tremors, which everyone recognizes in an intensified form from shivering from cold or the chills of fever. This insight that we humans are a small orchestra in the universal orchestra is the basis of resonance medicine in the context of regenerative medicine.

Staff of Lebenshilfe Traunstein refresh their knowledge in theory and practice.
Muscle cells synchronize when trembling in the 8 -12 Hz range, promoting the lymphatic-venous return flow to the heart to clear the way for fresh, regenerating arterial blood. This was the theoretical approach to developing a physical therapy that harmonizes displaced pathological time patterns using physiological resonance frequencies (8-12 Hz).
Using logarithmic time patterns from the Fibonacci sequence, the practitioner treats the body’s pathophysiological processes and brings it into a systemic „good mood.“
Can you explain the function and effect of the Matrixmobil—the therapeutic tool, so to speak?
Matrix Rhythm Therapy resynchronizes displaced rhythms, time patterns, and related biochemical processes using a treatment device, the Matrixmobil, which simulates physiological muscle tremors.
The Matrixmobil® acts as an extended arm (or vibrating thumb, so to speak) of the osteopath to relieve the osteopath. Instead of you inducing the muscle tremors yourself, as in the vibromassage known for centuries and in many cultures, the device does this for you.
Handling the Matrixmobil
The Matrixmobil® applicator should be used purposefully and decisively, according to the assumed working hypothesis.
The oscillation frequency of Matrix Rhythm Therapy corresponds to the natural oscillation frequency of the muscles. (Key terms: synchronization, entrainment)
Hold the applicator handle at the top (near the head) rather than at the bottom – with a shorter lever action, the effect is gentler and penetrates faster. Do not tense up. Hold the applicator in a relaxed position and gently trigger micro-stretches of the tissue.

The best way to practice Matrix Rhythm Therapy is by applying it on each other.
The Matrixmobil® slowly couples its energy into the tissue. It should be moved slowly. Think of the slow movements and sounds of a fishing boat and the waves on and in the sea. Do not run over the skin as you would when ironing a shirt! Create spiral waves that penetrate deep into the tissue.
Use your other hand to feel for „contraction knots“ or hardenings in the tissue. Find the ‚knots beneath the surface,‘ so to speak. At the same time, gently stretch the tissue to promote the micro-mobilization process.
Use both hands to guide the applicator evenly and in a coordinated manner. A gentle, attentive touch helps build the patient’s trust. The patient is encouraged to „let go“ more. Work simultaneously in a diagnostic and therapeutic mode by modulating the amplitude and frequency of the applied vibrations. At the same time, test the range of motion (ROM).
Avoid prolonged application to a single area to prevent skin irritation or redness. Use a little baby powder on the skin if hair or sweaty skin is irritating.
Important for the success of Matrix Rhythm Therapy treatment
Knowledge in the fields of anatomy, osteopathy, manual therapy, spiral dynamic therapy, physiology and psychology, as well as experience in physical therapy, are very valuable for the therapist. Like a map for a taxi driver.
When increasing the amplitude, the head of the applicator is often rotated too far (toward the apex). As a result, the vertical component of the therapeutic effect is lost. Similar to spreading butter on bread, there may be a slight adjustment of the angle relative to the surface, but the knife is not turned over.
For what indications is Matrix Rhythm Therapy generally recommended?
Matrix Rhythm Therapy has proven its worth in all cases where symptoms are caused by impaired microcirculation. It is particularly effective in perioperative trauma surgery, rehabilitation, pain management, and chronic diseases of the nervous, musculoskeletal, and musculoskeletal systems. Indications include musculoskeletal complaints such as frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, reduced range of motion, scoliosis, neck, back, sciatica, headaches, and jaw pain, TMD, arthritis and osteoarthritis, heel spurs, diabetic foot syndrome, polyneuropathy, scars, non-healing wounds, as well as vegetative dystonia and respiratory difficulties.
Numerous top athletes also discovered this therapy for themselves early on. For many, it is still a secret weapon that people are reluctant to discuss openly. It is used not only for acute complaints or injuries, but also for injury prevention and performance enhancement.
Not only humans, but also their four-legged friends benefit from Matrix Rhythm Therapy. Horses, for example, are successfully treated with it for problems with their backs, tendons, muscles, scars, or poorly-healing wounds. Good experiences have also been made in small animal practice. Dogs in particular are grateful patients.
The interview is being conducted on the occasion of a seminar for employees at the Altenmarkt support center and residential home. People with so-called severe multiple disabilities live there. What opportunities do you see for this group of people in particular when using Matrix Rhythm Therapy?
People with severe and multiple disabilities suffer from complex illnesses and therefore require systemic and local treatment. The Matrixmobil provides both. They need a psycho-neuromuscular reset. The focus here is essentially on:
- empathy,
- sympatho-vagal balance through treatment of the sympathetic trunk with the sympathetic, brachial, and lumbar plexus,
- the nervous system with its sensory and motor components,
- the cardiovascular and muscular system for micro- and macro-movement, as well as logistics.
The internal organs are also reached via segmental anatomy. Locally, rhythmic micro-extension has a pain-relieving, connective tissue- and fascia-releasing effect, as well as a soft tissue lengthening effect. As years of practice have shown, a systemic, regenerative therapeutic approach is particularly important for this group of people.

Dr. Ulrich G. Randoll is a medical doctor in research and practice (Matrix Center) in Munich. Within the framework of several research projects (1989–1997, Department of Maxillofacial and Trauma Surgery at the University of Erlangen), he worked on cell biological issues of cell differentiation and dedifferentiation. His focus shifted from the cellular rhythms observed through video microscopy to the body’s own rhythms. From the perspective of coherent fields, he developed the basis of Matrix Rhythm Therapy (MaRhyThe), a deep-acting, rhythmic micro-extension technique. With the construction of the „Matrixmobil,“ clinical implementation in everyday practice was subsequently realized.
